About

I’m a pretty standard geeky person, formerly of Massachusetts, now living in southern California with my husband, daughter, and my furry critters (Lily, Maeby, and Blurry the cats; Grubby and Tcl (“Tickle”) the dogs)

By day I’m a front-end web developer, playing in CSS, jQuery and HTML, and always eager to learn more about web standards and web design.

By night I play computer games and video games, play with my hobby websites, read books like crazy, and take crappy iPhone videos of my dogs chasing each other through the living room. I’ve also recently added playing with my infant daughter to the mix!

I grew up in a house full of people who played video games – both of my older brothers and my twin sister, even my mother got into it. My dad wasn’t much of a video game kind of guy, but he was always buying the newest gadgets and because of that we ended up having a family computer before a lot of other people did. He set up this DOS prompt for my sister and I that we could use to get to all of our games.

I’ve been playing video games since before I could read – I still remember thinking that I had to hit level 30 in order to get out of the Inner Sea in the original Final Fantasy. (That’s what my brothers told my twin sister and I.) Thankfully nowadays I generally pay attention to quests and dialog and can manage to get through a video game without their sage advice!

Reading has been a hobby for me for about as long as I can remember, but it was my mom who first got me to start reading Fantasy novels when I was in the 6th grade. She started me with Brian Jacques’ Redwall series, and from there I moved on to Mercedes Lackey’s Mage Wars trilogy, starting with The Black Gryphon and from there moving on to other Fantasy novels that did not feature an animal as the main character. I still remember finishing The Silver Gryphon and feeling sad and a little empty when I realized that there weren’t going to be any more of those books to get at the store!

This blog will be me rambling about many things, but mostly my hobbies, video games and reading (particularly Fantasy novels) being two of my favorite things to write about. There might be a bit of web development stuff here too, but I’ll mostly be saving that for my other blog, which lives on my portfolio site.

Looking forward to finally getting this blog thing off the ground!
